AMP Values in Action: Seeds of Hope in Costa Rica

The seeds of hope often take root in the most unexpected places — sometimes, halfway across the world. For the Lignos family and AMP United, that place was a small village in Costa Rica, where the next generation was empowered to serve, love, and plant lasting hope in the hearts of vulnerable children.
Investment in youth missions started early in the Lignos family with the sponsorship of a Christian mission trip to Costa Rica. The goal? Seeing seeds of hope planted in marginalized communities.
With support from AMP United, teams of youth were sent to a village outside of San Juan to serve and engage with the local community. Their focus was to visit an orphanage and provide programming support alongside the orphanage staff. Over the course of their time there, youth delivered songs, games, and Biblical lessons for children.
When asked what kind of impact he intended to see from this kind of ministry work, Peter Lignos, President of AMP United said, “The best we can hope for is planting seeds of faith and sharing with the local children that there is hope for the future. For our own youth to know that this level of connection and relationship building is how God intends for us to use our gifts to bless and empower others.”
AMP firmly believes that the gifts God gives us are not meant to be kept to ourselves.
“We want to share the goodness of God as we have seen it firsthand,” says Lignos. “We believe Jesus came not to be served but to serve.”
Working through youth creates a kind of ‘double blessing’ scenario, wherein not only are orphaned children in Costa Rica impacted, but those serving are being formed into other-centered leaders at the same time.
“There is so much competition for our children’s attention, that time to unplug and pour into those in marginalized communities is a real and tangible way to see God’s hand at work. This type of experience allows our own youth to know that this level of connection and relationship-building is how God intends for us to use our gifts to bless and empower others.”
