AMP Values in Action: Discovering The Joy of Service

In a world that often encourages self-focus, AMP United is passionate about creating opportunities for youth to experience the lasting joy of serving others. Through mission trips like our recent partnership in Puerto Rico, young people are discovering that true fulfillment comes not from what we gain — but from what we give.
Does the idea of serving others excite you? Do Jesus’ words ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive’ (Acts 20:35), resonate with you?
Today’s fast-paced, me-centered world often preaches a competing message. “Focus on yourself. That’s not your problem. Treat yourself.”
While many of us have experienced the blessing of helping others, youth today are constantly encountering the cultural pull to empty self-gratification.
That’s why AMP United is so driven to see youth discover the joy of serving others. While countercultural, youth around the world are finding what it means to give of their time to others as they participate in service trips.
In 2023, AMP United partnered with a local school in New England and Youth Works to customize a trip to Puerto Rico. A team of over 20 teens landed in Arecibo and immersed themselves in the local culture by assisting in agricultural work camps, helped accomplish infrastructure projects at a local school, and deployed prayer teams with Dream Esperanza. This trip has developed into an annual trip and many lives have been impacted through the work of these teens.
“Puerto Rico opened my eyes to what our true calling is as Christians–to serve. I never felt more joy than I did serving those in need,” said one teen who participated in the trip.
On the trip, she realized, “this is what the fullness of joy means. This is what we’re supposed to be doing.”
“I definitely think it’s countercultural to take time aside from our busy lives to serve others and focus on other people and other people’s needs, but at the same time I’m seeing more youth becoming interested in it,” she says. “It’s definitely something we need to see more of. More servant-hearted Christians.”
When asked about his passion for this kind of mission work, Peter Lignos, AMP United President, said that through these projects, “AMP United is fundamentally fulfilling its mission in Christian service to God and people. Faith, family, and community are interwoven in the fabric of who AMP United is. In this sense, we have a moral obligation to find opportunities where we can impact the world for good–especially in the communities that our employees call home.”
