AMP Values in Action: Next Generation of Missions-Centered Leaders

We want to invest in the next generation of leaders. At the heart of AMP United is the desire to see young people develop missions-centered hearts that seek to serve others over themselves. In light of this, AMP United developed an annual partnership with Portsmouth Christian Academy to equip students for missions-centered leadership.
To start, senior high students are sent to Camp Brookwoods for a week at the beginning of the school year for team-building. Located on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee, the space provides a beautiful and peaceful backdrop for the youth to get to know one another and plan for the year ahead. Throughout the school year, program participants meet weekly to develop specific skills for leadership with an emphasis on missions.
The students are trained and given responsibility for school events around this theme. They are held responsible to demonstrate good conduct both inside and outside of school. During the program, these students become the bridge between the student body and administration in areas of academics, spiritual formation, sports, arts, and government.
This kind of project is so important to us at AMP United because of our firm belief in the blessing of helping others. Our hope is that young leaders experience this blessing for themselves and then commit to serving others for the rest of their lives, in whatever leadership roles they eventually take on.
“It takes intentionality to carve out the time and the commitment to show up, participate, and finish the work of helping others,” says Peter Lignos, AMP United President.
Leaders, like Lignos, who experienced service opportunities like these later in life, know how pivotal they are in shaping your leadership approach. “Developing this as a practice in youth and young adults builds foundational elements of community.”
More than ever, it is crucial for youth to learn to be oriented toward the needs of others. We hope, with the help of projects like these, service to others becomes their true north.
